Vespa Will Make An All-Electric Scooter To Be Sold Sometime 2017

The iconic Vespa scooter will be available as an electric offering, with maker Piaggio Group revealing the new Vespa Elettrica. Unfortunately, the company has not offered many details about the upcoming model; this announcement instead concerns itself with the confirmation that yes, it really is happening. The Elettrica model features the classic Vespa look, but along with a modern light blue stripe accenting the design.

‘The Vespa Elettrica will, first and foremost, be a true Vespa,’ according to the Vespa statement published in AutoXpedia, ‘bringing the very latest in electric technology to a vehicle that will retain all the features that have been vital to the success. The style, agility, ease of use, and riding pleasure will be the same as the Vespa we’ve always known, with the addition of technological and innovative connectivity solutions—a perfect mix of the excitement, tech and environmental friendliness that only Vespa can create. Like it has always done in its first 70 years of history.’

Piaggio Group announced the upcoming scooter model at Eicma 2016 alongside some of the other Vespa models, including the Vespa RED, as well as some motorcycles like the Moto Guzzi V7III. The Vespa Elettrica is an all-electric model along with a silver body and a bright, light blue accent stripe that hints at the model’s electric nature. This scooter is a concept at this point, with Piaggio saying it is looking for ‘advanced [industry] players’ to help it develop the final form.

Currently in the concept stage, the production and sales of Vespa Elettrica have been planned for the 2nd half of the 2017. The vehicle will have a traditional Vespa design, the company said, without revealing further details.
