This title was supplied by Brian, who very patiently listened to me go on about how my feeds were broken and I had no idea why. When I told him I finally figured out that it was because of some extra whitespace in my comments.php file, he said “That sounds like the punchline to a really geeky joke.” And it pretty much is. Anyway, my feeds are fixed.
I leave tomorrow to go to the E-recruitment conference, where I will be speaking. The preparation has been pretty torturous, and I’m dreading the punchline to come.
The plane ride may be a good time to ponder what Chris just wrote, as I delve more and more into marketing and try to figure out how to balance all the separate and conflicting pulls at my expertise. I’m looking forward to meeting folks in the same boat, so say Hi if you’re there, and maybe we can have a margarita or some coffee.
I’ll put my slides up here this weekend when I get back from sunny San Diego. Til then, you’ll have a (much needed?) break from my really geeky jokes.
This section contains all the rants and most of the fun posts. It’s the kind of stuff we would talk about if we went to the bar for a drink. I may be full of it when I post things here, so take it with a grain of salt.
I think Matto has said it best for me today:

OMG!! I love San Diego!! I spoke at the AMA conference in SD last November. It’s the perfect city for a conference.
Tips: cabs to downtown are cheap and the trolley is great. Ciro’s Pizza (6th & Market) is absolutely incredible pizza (by the slice or the pie). The Blarney Stone is a good Irish pub (corner of 5th & Island). The Rock Bottom Brewery is a chain, but it’s pretty good (corner of 4th & G). Probably the best joint was a little blues bar right next door to Croce’s (same building)—good bartenders and great people watching.
Have fun!

Ed: Thanks a lot! I have never been to San Diego, so your tips are much appreciated. I am really looking forward to being hot and seeing the sun, too—it has been typical Northwest weather at home for a long time… :)

I can’t imagine that you won’t enjoy San Diego. Everybody I know who’s visited loved the place… as long as you don’t have to buy real estate there. :}
You’ll hear a lot about the Gaslamp District downtown, and that’s a good place to be. It’s so much better than so many other “urban” districts in that it’s just a part of the center of downtown, not some separate warehouse district. Just the regular ol’ city street grid and small-scale buildings with lots of local joints. There are a few chains, but not enough to ruin it or make it Anywhere, USA.
