HP OMEN Desktop Features The New OMEN Logo

HP introduced a new lineup of desktops, the HP Omen desktop can be kitted out with up to an Nvidia GTX 1080 graphics card or as we like to called it, ‘the most badass graphics card ever created.’ There is also an eminently respectable AMD R9 390X option.

The tower will use the smaller microATX form factor and offer options like Nvidia’s Founders Edition graphics cards and optional water cooling. During a briefing, HP spoke extensively about designing the Omen Desktop to be a good machine for Virtual Reality gaming, so even the machine’s base specs are supposed to be powerful enough for a good experience.

As for that Omen desktop, it looks like… your typical mid-tower desktop. The brief bits of design accent are the brushed metal facade and on the front red lighting. Otherwise, it’s fairly ho-hum. At the highest end, you can just configure it with an Intel Core i7-6700K processor, 32 gigabyte of RAM, a 512 gigabyte SSD and a 3 terabyte quality hard drive. Naturally, you can also configure the desktop with NVIDIA’s new GTX 1080 Founder Edition card, or if you prefer AMD, a Radeon R9 390X. There is also optional water-cooling, which could be helpful if you pick up an overclockable CPU.

The device has 4 USB 2.0 ports, 2 with USB 3.0, one USB 3.1 Typce C port (select models), a media card reader, and dual-HDMI out.

HP’s also pairing the desktop with a new 32-inch 2560-by-1440 FreeSync-compatible display with 2 HDMI ports, one DisplayPort, and a USB hub. Pricing for the display was not announced, but it will release in August around the same time as the desktop, which is lacking a pricing announcement.
