NVIDIA Expands AI-Powered DLSS Technology

NVIDIA, the technology company known for its graphics processing units (GPUs), has announced an expansion of its AI-powered Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology, with integration into popular games and engines. The latest developments are set to revolutionize PC gaming, with improved image quality and smooth gameplay.

DLSS Technology Accelerates Rendering for High-Quality Images

DLSS technology, launched in 2018, drives a neural graphics revolution in PC gaming. It intertwines AI and graphics to create an accelerated rendering pipeline that continuously learns and improves. Instead of natively rendering every pixel in a frame, DLSS allows the game to render only 1/8th of the pixels and then uses AI and GeForce RTX Tensor Cores to reconstruct the rest of the pixels. This dramatically multiplies frame rates while delivering crisp, high-quality images that rival native resolution.

Expansion of DLSS Technology

NVIDIA has announced an expansion of its DLSS technology, which is now supported in popular games such as Forza Horizon 5, Diablo IV, and Redfall. Forza Horizon 5, named the best open-world racing game of all time by several media outlets, will update to DLSS 3 on March 28. Redfall, Bethesda’s highly anticipated, open-world, co-op first-person shooter from Arkane Austin, will launch on May 2 with DLSS 3. Diablo IV, the latest installment of the genre-defining Diablo franchise, will launch on June 6 with DLSS 3.

DLSS Technology Adoption

DLSS technology has been adopted 7x faster than the previous version in the first six months of their respective launches. To date, over 270 games and applications use NVIDIA DLSS as an AI-powered performance accelerator, with 28 released games now supporting the latest version of the technology.

Integration of DLSS Technology in Unreal Engine

NVIDIA has also announced the integration of DLSS 3 into the popular Unreal Engine (UE) game engine. Unreal Engine is an open and advanced real-time 3D creation tool that gives game developers and creators the freedom and control to deliver cutting-edge real-time 3D content, interactive experiences, and immersive virtual worlds. The DLSS 3 plug-in will debut in UE 5.2, making it simpler for any developer to accelerate the performance of their game or application.

DLSS Frame Generation Plug-in

NVIDIA is publicly releasing the DLSS Frame Generation plug-in to further ease developer adoption of the technology. The plug-in will be available to access via NVIDIA Streamline, an open-source, cross-vendor framework that simplifies the integration of super-resolution technologies in 3D games and apps. The release will incorporate the latest DLSS enhancements made earlier this year, improving user interface stability, image quality during fast movement, and finer detail stability and overall better image quality.

NVIDIA’s expansion of its AI-powered DLSS technology is set to revolutionize PC gaming, with improved image quality and smooth gameplay. The integration of DLSS 3 into the popular Unreal Engine game engine will make it easier for any developer to accelerate the performance of their game or application. With DLSS technology’s expansion to popular games and engines, its reach is set to expand even further, resulting in a new era of high-quality PC gaming.
